About Guru

Most "things to do" lists are the same on a wet Tuesday night as on a sunny Saturday morning. This one isn't.

What it does

Guru keeps a short, opinionated list of places for each city (259 across 10 cities so far) and tags each one with the things that decide whether a visit works: indoors or outdoors, whether it survives rain, what it costs, how long it takes, when it is at its best, and which days it runs. A ranking engine weighs those tags against the live forecast for the city and the time of day, and writes a one-line reason under each pick. The same list can put a food hall first at nine on a wet Friday night and a hill walk first at ten on a bright Sunday morning.

Where the data comes from

The places, descriptions and tags are written and maintained by hand. Weather comes from the MET Norway weather API, published under CC BY 4.0; forecasts are refreshed about every half hour. Opening hours and prices are not tracked live, which is why every card links to the official site.

How it is paid for

The site is free to use. Where a place sells tickets or tours, the "Tickets and tours" link may be an affiliate link, which means the site can earn a commission on a booking at no extra cost to you. Advertising may also appear on some pages. Neither changes the ranking: the order is decided by the weather, the time and the editorial weight of a place, never by what pays. The affiliate disclosure has the detail.
