Bath Abbey
The fan-vaulted abbey with the angels climbing its west front, and a tower tour over the city.
The last great medieval church built in England, with a fan vault along the whole nave and a west front carved with angels on ladders. Entry is by donation; the tower tour climbs 212 steps for the clock, the bells and the roofscape. It is beside the Roman Baths, so the two make a natural pair.
When it works
Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon. Donation; tower tour ticketed.
Good for a first visit, going solo and step-free visits.
