Victoria Art Gallery
The city’s own gallery beside Pulteney Bridge, with Bath painters and Gainsborough, free upstairs.
A compact Edwardian gallery with a permanent collection of Bath-related art, from Gainsborough and Turner to Walter Sickert, free to see, and ticketed touring shows downstairs. It is right by Pulteney Bridge, takes half an hour, and is a good dry pause on a river walk.
When it works
Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon. Permanent collection free; exhibitions ticketed.
Good for going solo, a date and step-free visits.
