Guru/Bath/Pulteney Bridge and the weir

Pulteney Bridge and the weir

One of only four bridges in the world lined with shops, above a horseshoe weir on the Avon.

Robert Adam's bridge has shops along both sides, so you barely know you are crossing water until you look down at the curved weir below. The best view is from Parade Gardens or the riverside walk beneath; boats leave from the far side. Free, and photographed by everyone who has ever been to Bath.

When it works

Outdoors: pick a dry day. Best morning, afternoon, evening.

Good for a first visit, a date and step-free visits.
