Sally Lunn’s
The Sally Lunn bun, served in one of the oldest houses in Bath, with a kitchen museum in the cellar.
The house dates from 1482 and the bun, a brioche-like round served with sweet or savoury toppings, from the 1680s. It is a tourist rite and a good one, with a tiny free museum of the original kitchen in the cellar. Expect a queue at lunchtime; the evening sittings are calmer. Two minutes from the Abbey.
When it works
Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon, evening.
Good for kids, a first visit and a date.
