Guru/Edinburgh/Dean Village and the Water of Leith

Dean Village and the Water of Leith

A riverside village of old mills a few minutes from the West End, and a walkway to Stockbridge.

Dean Village looks like it belongs to another century, with its mill buildings and the Water of Leith running through. Follow the walkway downstream to St Bernard's Well and Stockbridge for a flat, pretty hour. It is free and quiet in the morning; the Modern Art galleries are a short climb up from the river.

When it works

Outdoors: pick a dry day. Best morning, afternoon.

Good for a date, going solo, dogs and locals' favourite.
