National Galleries: Scottish National Gallery
Titian, Turner and the Scottish painters in a neoclassical gallery on the Mound, free.
The 2023 rebuild opened new Scottish galleries under Princes Street Gardens, and the old rooms upstairs hold the Old Masters. It is free, central and quiet after lunch, and on a wet day it is a natural pairing with the Portrait Gallery ten minutes away. The Turner watercolours are shown only in January.
When it works
Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon.
Good for a date, going solo and step-free visits.
