Guru/Edinburgh/The Writers' Museum

The Writers' Museum

Burns, Scott and Stevenson in a seventeenth-century house off the Royal Mile, free.

Lady Stair's House is a tall, narrow townhouse with steep stairs and small rooms devoted to the three writers, including Stevenson's riding boots and Burns' writing desk. The courtyard outside, Makars' Court, has quotations set into the paving. Free, and twenty minutes is plenty.

When it works

Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon.

Good for going solo and a first visit.
