Royal Armouries
The national collection of arms and armour, with live combat demonstrations, free, on the dock.
Five floors of armour, swords, guns and the famous Hall of Steel, with daily live shows of jousting, sword fighting and falconry in the tiltyard outside in summer. It is free, enormous and rarely feels crowded, and the demonstrations make it a genuine day out for children. Twenty minutes' walk from the station along the river, or a water taxi.
When it works
Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon.
Good for kids, a first visit, step-free visits and groups.
