Guru/Liverpool/Crosby Beach and Another Place

Crosby Beach and Another Place

A hundred cast-iron men by Antony Gormley standing in the sand, looking out to sea.

Gormley's figures are spread along three kilometres of beach and disappear into the tide twice a day, which is the point. Walk out among them at low water, then along the promenade with the wind turbines and the ships on the horizon. Free, twenty minutes by train from the centre, and best in low sun; check the tide times and don't walk out to the far figures on soft sand.

When it works

Outdoors: pick a dry day. Best morning, afternoon, evening.

Good for dogs, a date, sunset, kids and locals' favourite.
