Guru/Manchester/Central Library

Central Library

A circular 1930s library with a domed reading room, free and warm on a wet day.

The great round reading room under the dome is one of the calmest places in the centre of Manchester, and the ground floor has exhibitions, a café and a music library with pianos you can book. It is free, open long hours and right on the tram line. Twenty minutes is enough; an afternoon is easy.

When it works

Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon.

Good for going solo and step-free visits.
