York Theatre Royal
A theatre since 1744, with a producing company, a famous panto and a glass foyer over medieval walls.
The Theatre Royal makes its own shows as well as taking tours, and its Christmas pantomime is a York institution. The Georgian auditorium sits on the site of a medieval hospital, whose walls show through the foyer's glass. Central, indoors and reasonably priced; the obvious plan for a wet evening.
When it works
Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best evening.
Good for a date, kids, groups and step-free visits.
