Guru/Birmingham/The Coffin Works

The Coffin Works

The factory that made the fittings for Churchill’s coffin, preserved as it was left.

Newman Brothers made coffin furniture for a century and shut in 1998 with everything still in place; the guided tour walks you through the stamping shop and the shroud room. It is small, indoors and oddly cheerful. Tours run on set days, so check before going.

When it works

Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon.

Good for going solo and a date.
