Guru/Bristol/Leigh Woods and the gorge walk

Leigh Woods and the gorge walk

Ancient woodland on the far side of the gorge, with the best views back to the bridge.

Cross the suspension bridge and turn right for the National Trust woods along the top of the Avon Gorge. The Purple Trail is a flat loop; the path along the cliff edge has the views. It is free, muddy after rain and full of bluebells in May.

When it works

Outdoors: pick a dry day. Best morning, afternoon.

Good for dogs, locals' favourite and kids.
