Guru/Bristol/Clifton Suspension Bridge

Clifton Suspension Bridge

Brunel’s bridge across the Avon Gorge, free to walk and best at sunset.

Walk across for the drop to the river seventy-five metres below, then climb to the Observatory on the Clifton side for the view of the bridge itself. The free visitor centre on the Leigh Woods side tells the engineering story. At night it is lit, and it is a short walk from Clifton Village's bars.

When it works

Outdoors: pick a dry day. Best morning, afternoon, evening, night.

Good for a first visit, a date, sunset, kids and dogs.
