Victoria Quarter and the arcades
Marble, mosaic and stained glass: the Victorian arcades that made Leeds a shopping city.
County Arcade and its neighbours were built in the 1890s as the height of luxury and still look it, with mosaic floors and a stained-glass roof that Frank Matcham, the theatre architect, designed. Harvey Nichols and the boutiques live here now. Free to walk through, entirely under cover, and lovely even if you buy nothing.
