Guru/York/Treasurer's House

Treasurer's House

A collector’s townhouse behind the Minster, with the cellar where a plumber saw Roman soldiers march through.

Frank Green filled this house with antiques in the 1900s and left it to the National Trust with instructions that nothing be moved. It is famous for the 1953 sighting of a Roman legion in the cellar, which is on the tour. Ticketed, indoors and a quiet forty-five minutes beside the Minster.

When it works

Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon.

Good for going solo and a date.
