Beckford’s Tower
An eccentric’s gilded tower on Lansdown hill, restored and reopened, with a view over the city.
William Beckford, novelist and collector, built this tower in 1827 as a retreat and a place to keep his treasures; the lantern at the top is gilded and the spiral stair climbs to a belvedere with a wide view. Restored and reopened in 2024 with a small museum. Opening days are limited, so check before the walk up Lansdown Road.
