Guru/Birmingham/Moseley village and Moseley Bog

Moseley village and Moseley Bog

Independent shops, a farmers’ market and the woodland that inspired Tolkien’s Old Forest.

Moseley is the city's bohemian suburb, with a village green, good pubs and a farmers' market on the last Saturday of the month. Moseley Bog, a few minutes away, is the wet woodland where Tolkien played as a boy. A bus ride south of the centre and a gentle half-day.

When it works

Partly outdoors: better on a dry day, with shelter if it turns. Best morning, afternoon, evening.

Good for locals' favourite, dogs and a date.
