Guru/Glasgow/The Burrell Collection

The Burrell Collection

A shipping magnate’s nine thousand treasures in a glass building in the woods, free.

William Burrell gave the city everything from Chinese ceramics and medieval tapestries to Degas and Rodin, and the 2022 rebuild of the gallery lets the woods of Pollok Park show through the glass walls. It is free, calm and best combined with a walk in the park. A bus or train from the centre takes twenty minutes.

When it works

Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon.

Good for a date, going solo and step-free visits.
