Guru/Liverpool/Chinatown

Chinatown

The oldest Chinese community in Europe, under the biggest Chinese arch outside China.

The arch on Nelson Street was a gift from Shanghai and is the landmark; the streets behind it have Cantonese roast-meat counters, dim sum restaurants and supermarkets. It is quiet in the daytime and busy at night, and Chinese New Year here is the city's biggest street party. Five minutes from the Baltic Triangle.

When it works

Mostly under cover, so light rain is fine. Best afternoon, evening, night.

Good for groups and a first visit.
