Guru/Liverpool/Liverpool Cathedral

Liverpool Cathedral

The biggest cathedral in Britain, with a tower you can climb for the whole city and the river.

Giles Gilbert Scott's sandstone giant took 74 years to build and the scale inside stops people in their tracks. Entry is free; the tower experience is ticketed and worth it on a clear day, with lifts most of the way and 108 steps at the top. St James's Cemetery in the hollow beside it is a strange, quiet walk.

When it works

Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon. Free; tower ticketed.

Good for a first visit, going solo and step-free visits.
