The most complete town walls in England run for over two miles around the old city, with four great gatehouses, or bars, and the finest stretch between Bootham Bar and Monk Bar looking across the Dean's garden to the Minster. Free, open from dawn to dusk, and about two hours for the full circuit. Narrow and unfenced in places.
