Guru/York/Fossgate and Walmgate

Fossgate and Walmgate

The restaurant street: independents from tapas to Yorkshire ale, beside the Foss.

Fossgate is where the city eats when it is not in a tea room: small independent restaurants, a famous pie shop, a wine bar, delis and the Blue Bell, one of the smallest pubs in York. Walmgate continues the run over the Foss bridge. Book for Friday and Saturday; walk in during the week.

When it works

Mostly under cover, so light rain is fine. Best afternoon, evening, night.

Good for a date, groups and locals' favourite.
