Guru/York/York Castle Museum

York Castle Museum

A recreated Victorian street, the condemned cell that held Dick Turpin and rooms through the centuries.

Kirkgate, the cobbled Victorian street with its shops and a sweet shop that sells, is the part everyone remembers; around it are period rooms, toys, the 1960s gallery and the prison cells of the old castle gaol. Ticketed and indoors, with Clifford's Tower on its mound outside. Two to three hours.

When it works

Indoors, so the weather does not matter. Best morning, afternoon.

Good for kids, a first visit and step-free visits.
