Guru/York/Yorkshire Air Museum

Yorkshire Air Museum

A wartime bomber base kept as it was, with a Halifax, a Victor and engine-run days.

RAF Elvington's control tower, hangars and Nissen huts hold sixty aircraft, from a rebuilt Halifax bomber to Cold War jets, with the French squadrons that flew from here remembered too. Ticketed, a short drive or bus ride east of the city, and largely under cover. Check for the thunder days when the jets' engines are run.

When it works

Mostly under cover, so light rain is fine. Best morning, afternoon.

Good for kids and groups.
