Guru/Glasgow/Glasgow Botanic Gardens and Kibble Palace

Glasgow Botanic Gardens and Kibble Palace

A Victorian glasshouse of tree ferns and statues in a free riverside garden at the top of Byres Road.

The Kibble Palace is a wrought-iron dome from 1873 full of tree ferns, carnivorous plants and marble figures, and it is free and warm whatever the weather. The gardens outside run down to the River Kelvin walkway. Ten minutes from Byres Road's cafés, so a fine start or end to a West End afternoon.

When it works

Mostly under cover, so light rain is fine. Best morning, afternoon.

Good for a date, kids, dogs and step-free visits.
