Guru/Leeds/Roundhay Park and Tropical World

Roundhay Park and Tropical World

Seven hundred acres of lakes, woods and lawns, with a tropical glasshouse of butterflies and meerkats.

One of the biggest city parks in Europe, with two lakes, a castle folly, formal gardens and enough grass for the whole city on a sunny Sunday. Tropical World on the edge is a cheap, warm, humid escape full of butterflies, birds and a nocturnal house; useful when the weather turns. Buses from the centre take twenty minutes.

When it works

Outdoors: pick a dry day. Best morning, afternoon. Park free; Tropical World cheap.

Good for kids, dogs, a date and locals' favourite.
